Help Center
Step-by-step help articles for everyday Indo Mail tasks: creating and securing an account, sending and organising mail, staying safe from scams, setting up a business domain, managing storage and plans, and reaching support.
1. Welcome to the Help Center
This Help Center explains how to do common tasks in Indo Mail, one article at a time. Each article is short and written in plain English. The steps match the web app and Android app as released on 8 October 2026. Screens on your phone may look slightly different from a desktop browser, but the names of buttons stay the same.
Features that are not live yet are marked "planned". If an article does not solve your problem, go to the last article, which explains how to reach support. You can also write to help@indoemail.in at any time.
2. Create an account
You need a mobile number to create an Indo Mail account. We use it to keep accounts safe and to reduce fake sign-ups. You must be 18 or older.
- Open https://indoemail.in and choose the option to create an account.
- Enter your name and choose the address you want before @indoemail.in. If it is taken, pick another.
- Choose a strong password of your own. Use a long phrase that you do not use anywhere else.
- Enter your mobile number. This is required.
- Add a recovery email if you wish. It is optional, but it helps us contact you about your account.
- Choose whether the account is for personal or business use, accept the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, and finish.
- You will land in your inbox. Your first message from us explains the basics.
3. Sign in
- Go to https://indoemail.in and choose Sign in, or open the Indo Mail app.
- Enter your full address, for example yourname@indoemail.in, and your password.
- If 2-Step Verification is on, open your authenticator app and enter the 6-digit code shown for Indo Mail.
- If you see an error, check that Caps Lock is off and that you typed the full address. Repeated wrong attempts are slowed down to protect your account, so wait a few minutes before you try again.
Never sign in on a page whose address is not exactly indoemail.in. We will never ask for your password by email, text or phone.
4. Turn 2-Step Verification on or off
2-Step Verification adds a code from an authenticator app to your password, so a stolen password alone cannot open your account. It works with any authenticator app that supports time-based codes.
- To turn it on: open Settings, find 2-Step Verification, and choose Turn on 2-Step Verification.
- Scan the QR code with your authenticator app. If you cannot scan it, type in the key shown under the code.
- Enter the 6-digit code the app shows and choose Turn on. You will see a message that 2-Step Verification is on.
- To turn it off: open Settings, choose Turn off, enter your password and confirm. Your account is then protected by your password only, so we recommend keeping it on.
- Keep your phone safe. If you lose access to your authenticator app, contact support@indoemail.in from your recovery email address and we will verify your identity before helping.
5. Check your sign-in history
Sign-in history shows when and from where your account was opened. Use it to spot sign-ins you do not recognise.
- Open Settings and choose Sign-in history.
- A list appears with the time, IP address and device or browser of each sign-in.
- If you see a sign-in that is not yours, change your password at once, turn on 2-Step Verification if it is off, and write to security@indoemail.in with the time shown.
We keep sign-in records for security and to meet legal duties, including the CERT-In and DPDP Rules requirements; sign-in history is kept for one year.
6. Reset a forgotten password
A self-service password reset is not available yet. Today, resets are handled by our support team so that nobody can take over your account.
- Write to support@indoemail.in from the recovery email address saved on your account, with the subject "Password reset".
- Tell us your Indo Mail address, the mobile number you used at sign-up and roughly when you created the account.
- We verify your details and, once we are sure it is you, we help you set a new password. We aim to reply within 48 hours.
- After the reset, sign in, check your sign-in history and turn on 2-Step Verification.
If you did not save a recovery email, tell us what you can about the account. Without a way to verify you, we may not be able to restore access, because protecting your mail comes first.
7. Compose, reply and send
- Choose Compose, or press c on your keyboard.
- Type the address in To. Use Cc or Bcc if you need to copy people. Bcc keeps those addresses hidden from other recipients.
- Add a subject and write your message. The editor supports bold, lists and links.
- Your draft is saved automatically as you type, so you can close the window and come back later from Drafts.
- Press Send, or use Ctrl + Enter. If the message is queued, Indo Mail retries for about three days and sends you a bounce message if it cannot be delivered.
- Your signature, if you set one in Settings, is added to new messages and replies.
- You can send up to 500 messages a day from one account.
- Scan and attach (from 2.0.1): in a new message, tap the scan button, take a photo of a paper document, and Indo Mail cleans it up on your device (brighter, sharper black and white) and attaches it as a JPEG.
- Undo send: choose any time from 5 to 150 seconds in Settings → General → Undo send.
- Discarded drafts go to Bin, where you can restore them for 30 days.
Delivery to addresses at other email providers is waiting for approval from our email relay provider. Mail between @indoemail.in addresses works today. We will update this page when outside delivery is fully enabled.
8. Attachments and Drive links
- To attach a file, choose the attachment button in the composer and pick a file. Each message can carry up to 25 MB of attachments.
- For larger files, upload them to Indo Drive and share a link instead. Drive accepts files up to 5 GB each.
- In Drive, choose a file and create a share link. Anyone with the link can open the file, so share it only with people you trust, and remove the link when it is no longer needed.
- Download links in mail are signed and short-lived, so an old link may stop working. Ask the sender for a fresh one.
- Never open attachments you did not expect, even from a friend, until you have checked with them by another route.
9. Labels, search and shortcuts
Labels are coloured tags. A message can have more than one. To create a label, open the label menu in the sidebar, choose a name and a colour, and then apply it to messages from the toolbar. Archive moves mail out of the inbox without deleting it. You can undo an archive, delete or spam action right after you do it.
| Search operator | What it finds | Example |
|---|---|---|
| from: | Mail sent by an address or name | from:rahul |
| to: | Mail sent to an address | to:accounts@example.in |
| subject: | Words in the subject line | subject:invoice |
| has:attachment | Mail that carries attachments | has:attachment |
| is:unread | Mail you have not opened | is:unread |
| in: | Mail in one place, such as spam or trash | in:trash |
| label: | Mail with one of your labels | label:travel |
Combine operators to narrow a search, for example from:rahul has:attachment is:unread. Press / to jump to the search box.
10. Keyboard shortcuts
| Key | What it does |
|---|---|
| c | Compose a new message |
| / | Go to search |
| r | Reply (when a conversation is open) |
| a | Reply all (when a conversation is open) |
| f | Forward (when a conversation is open) |
| e | Archive the conversation |
| # | Delete the conversation |
| u | Go back to the list |
| Ctrl + Enter | Send the message you are writing |
Shortcuts are switched off while you are typing in a box, so they never change your text.
11. Spam and scam warnings
Indo Mail checks incoming mail with SPF, DKIM and DMARC. Messages that fail these checks go to Spam. HTML in messages is cleaned, and remote images are blocked until you allow them, because images can tell a sender that you opened a message.
- When we think a message may be a scam or phishing attempt, a warning banner appears at the top with the reasons.
- Choose Report scam on the banner if you agree. Reports help us protect others.
- Do not click links or open attachments in a message with a warning. Do not reply with personal details, passwords, bank details, UPI PINs or one-time codes.
- Real banks, the government and Indo Mail never ask for your UPI PIN or password by email.
- If you pay or share details by mistake, call your bank and report online financial fraud on 1930 or at the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal straight away.
- To move a message you want out of Spam, open it and choose Not spam. To stop a sender, move their message to Spam.
12. Notifications
- Open Settings and look for the new-mail notification button.
- In a browser, choose Turn on new-mail notifications and allow notifications when your browser asks. If you blocked them earlier, allow notifications for indoemail.in in your browser settings.
- On the Android app, choose New-mail notifications on this phone and allow notifications for Indo Mail in Android settings if asked.
- To stop alerts on one device, choose Turn off new-mail notifications on this device.
- Notifications are delivered through your browser's push service. They carry an encrypted payload, and the push service cannot read your mail.
13. Open email links in Indo Mail
When you click an email address on a web page, your device may open another mail app. You can ask your browser to open these mailto: links in Indo Mail instead.
- Sign in on a desktop browser and open Settings.
- Choose Open email links in Indo Mail and accept the browser's request.
- Next time you click an email link, the composer opens in Indo Mail with the address filled in.
- Not every browser supports this option. If you do not see the button, your browser does not allow it.
14. Install the apps
- Installable web app: open https://indoemail.in in your browser and choose Install Indo Mail on this device in Settings, or use the install option in your browser's menu. It opens full screen and sends notifications.
- Android: Indo Mail 1.3.0 for Android 7.0 or later is available as a signed APK from indoemail.in. A Google Play listing is planned. Download only from indoemail.in, and allow installation from that source when your phone asks.
- iPhone: an iPhone app is being prepared, and an App Store listing is planned. For now, add the web app to your home screen from your browser.
- The Android app blocks unencrypted connections, so your sign-in always travels over HTTPS.
15. Set up a business domain
Business plans let you send and receive mail on your own domain, such as you@yourcompany.in, with an admin console to manage people.
- Write to sales@indoemail.in to start a Business plan, with your domain name and the number of mailboxes you need.
- We give you the DNS records to add at your domain registrar: records that route mail to Indo Mail, a record that says which servers may send for your domain (SPF) and a DKIM key that is unique to your company.
- Your registrar or IT person adds the records. DNS changes can take several hours to spread.
- Once the records are confirmed, create mailboxes in the admin console and share the sign-in details with your team.
- Ask each person to change their password, set up 2-Step Verification and check their sign-in history.
- Administrators can see the sign-in history of their company's accounts. Migration help for existing mailboxes is available as a paid add-on at ₹5,000 per domain for up to 25 mailboxes.
16. Storage
The Free plan has 50 GB, shared across Mail, Drive and Photos. Everything you keep in these three apps counts toward the same limit, including attachments, files, photos and Trash.
- To free space, empty Trash and Spam, delete large attachments, and remove files you no longer need from Drive and Photos.
- Use search with has:attachment to find messages that probably use the most space.
- If you need more, extra storage is available: 100 GB for ₹59 per month or 1 TB for ₹299 per month. Prices exclude 18% GST.
17. Plans and payments
- Personal plans (from 2.0.1): Free 50 GB; Pro 100 GB ₹99 a month; Plus 200 GB ₹149 a month; Premium 1 TB ₹999 a month; Premium 2 TB ₹1,599 a month; Premium 5 TB ₹3,600 a month; Business ₹89 and Enterprise ₹999 per user a month (yearly prices are about ten months' worth). Prices exclude 18% GST. Outside India they are shown in your currency.
| Plan | Price (excluding 18% GST) | Storage | Ads |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | ₹0 | 50 GB shared across Mail, Drive and Photos | Contextual ads |
| Pro | ₹99 per month or ₹999 per year | 100 GB | No ads |
| Business Starter | ₹0 for up to 10 mailboxes | 50 GB per mailbox | No ads |
| Business | ₹149 per user per month | 200 GB per user | No ads |
| Enterprise | ₹299 per user per month, by contract | 1 TB per user, pooled | No ads |
Online checkout is not live yet. To upgrade today, write to billing@indoemail.in for personal plans or sales@indoemail.in for business plans. When checkout opens, it will use an RBI-authorised payment aggregator, and Indo Mail will never see your card details or UPI PIN. Wallet in Indo Mail creates UPI payment-request links and QR codes, but it does not hold your money.
18. Report abuse
- To report spam, phishing or an abusive sender, use Report scam on the warning banner if you see one, or move the message to Spam.
- To report serious abuse, harassment, hate, child safety concerns or misuse of our name, write to abuse@indoemail.in with the full headers if you can, or forward the message as an attachment.
- To report a security weakness, write to security@indoemail.in and give us time to fix it before sharing details.
- For emergencies where someone is in danger, contact the police on 112 first.
19. Separate Indo apps
Each Indo app is also its own Android app: Indo Chat, Indo Meet, Indo Calendar, Indo Drive, Indo Word, Indo Photos, Indo Cloud, Indo Contacts, Indo Files, Indo Maps, Indo Translate, Indo Pay, Indo Travel, Indo Forms, Indo Passwords, Lily and the Indo business and ads apps. Download them from indoemail.in/get-apps. One Indo account signs in to all of them; new-mail alerts come from the Indo Mail app only.
On a computer, open an app (for example indoemail.in/app/calendar) and choose Install in the browser's address bar to keep it as its own window.
20. Lily, your assistant
Lily is the Indo assistant in every app: press Ask Lily (the L button at the top). Lily answers questions from the help pages at any time of day, writes and rewrites mail, summarises conversations and drafts replies (it never sends on its own), and opens a support case when a person is needed. Turn Lily's writing help off in Settings → General.
21. Indo Calendar and Indo Word
- Create an event: Indo Calendar → New event. Add guests by email and tick Add Indo Meet link; guests receive an invitation that works in Gmail, Outlook and Apple Calendar. Guests with an Indo address get the event in their calendar automatically.
- Reminders: choose when to be reminded; the reminder arrives by email.
- Invitations you receive: press Add to calendar on the invitation email.
- Indo Word: New document; it saves as you type. Share → read-only link; Download → Word (.docx); Print for paper or PDF.
22. Indo Forms with file upload
- Add a File upload question to collect CVs, photos or documents (up to 10 MB a file, 25 MB per response). Choose Pictures only, PDF only, Documents or Any file, and whether several files are allowed.
- Open Look and details to set your colour, background, font, logo, business name, contact details and button text, and to stop accepting responses on a date or after a number of responses.
- Files appear with each response; only you can download them.
23. Email support with an instant answer
Write to support@indoemail.in (or care@, help@, info@, billing@, privacy@, security@, abuse@, grievance@). You get an automatic reply at once with your case number (IMS-…), when to expect a reply from a person, and Lily's best answer from the help pages. Reply to that email and keep the case number in the subject to add more.
24. Indo Account, calendar settings and contact photos
- Indo Account: tap your profile picture → Manage your Indo Account. Personal info (name, photo, phone, recovery email, time zone), Security (password, 2-Step Verification, devices), Data & privacy (Lily, storage, download or delete your data), People & sharing, and Payments & subscriptions.
- Calendar settings: Indo Calendar → the gear. Choose time format, time zones, world clock, default event length and reminder, week start, weekends, working hours and shortcuts; create more calendars; import or export .ics files; copy a calendar's secret iCal address.
- Contact photos: open a contact → Add photo. Photos in .vcf files from your phone are imported too.
- From phone (Android app): Indo Contacts → From phone → allow Contacts. Your phone's contacts appear within a minute; nobody is added twice.
25. Find your way around every app
- Open any app: press the 9-dot button at the top right and choose the app.
- Search inside an app: in Drive, Contacts, Calendar, Word, Files and Maps, the search box at the top searches that app.
- Create something new: use the big New or Create button at the top of the left column.
- Calendar answers: open an invitation in Indo Calendar and press Yes, Maybe or No; the organiser sees your answer. Guests outside Indo Mail answer from the links in the invitation email.
- Tidy your contacts: Indo Contacts → Merge and fix shows people saved twice and merges them; Labels groups people such as Family or Work.
- Templates: Indo Word → Templates, or the gallery at the top of Indo Word, starts a letter, resume, meeting notes, proposal, GST invoice or report.
26. Contact support
