Locked out? Here is how back in.
Set up your recovery options now, while you can still sign in. It takes two minutes and is the difference between a quick fix and a lost account.
Set up three things.
1. A recovery email
An address at another email service that you can always open. Password reset codes and sign-in codes go there. Add it in Indo Account → Personal info.
2. Backup codes
If you use 2-Step Verification, make your ten backup codes in Settings → Security → Backup codes. Print them or write them down and keep them away from your phone. Each code works once.
3. A passkey on a second device
Add a passkey on your computer as well as your phone, so losing one device does not lock you out.
If you cannot sign in.
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| Forgot your password | Choose “Forgot password?” on the sign-in page. We send a 6-digit code to your recovery email. Enter it and choose a new password. Your other devices are signed out. |
| Password works, but no authenticator app | On the 2-Step Verification screen choose “Use a backup code instead” and type one of your backup codes. Then make new codes and set up the app again. |
| Want to sign in without your password | Choose “Email me a code instead” on the sign-in page. A code goes to your recovery email and lasts 10 minutes. |
| No recovery email, no backup codes | Write to support@indoemail.in from an address you have used with the account. We will ask questions only the owner can answer. We cannot promise to recover an account without recovery options, because we will not hand an account to someone who only claims to own it. |
Act quickly.
- From another device, sign in and go to Settings → Security.
- Choose “Sign out of all other devices”. The lost phone is signed out of Indo Mail at once.
- Change your password.
- If your authenticator app was on the lost phone, turn 2-Step Verification off and on again with your new phone, and make new backup codes.
- Remove the lost phone’s passkey in Settings → Security → Passkeys.
What happens if keys are lost.
End-to-end encrypted messages are locked to the devices you had when each message arrived. The keys live only on those devices; Indo Mail never has them.
If you still have at least one of those devices, open Indo Mail on it and the messages open as normal. If every one of those devices is lost, reset or its browser data is cleared, those messages cannot be opened by you or by us. Your other mail, files, contacts and calendar are not affected, and new encrypted mail works on your new device straight away.
Tip: keep Indo Mail open on more than one device, such as your phone and your computer, so one loss does not lock any messages.
Check your recovery options now.
Two minutes today saves a lot of trouble later.
