Bring everything. Lose nothing.
Moving to a new address is easier than it sounds. Follow these steps at your own pace — your old address keeps working while you move.
Six steps to your new inbox.
Most people finish in an evening. Nothing is deleted from your old service.
1. Create your Indo Mail address
Sign up free at indoemail.in. Choose your address, add a recovery email and turn on 2-Step Verification in Account → Security.
2. Export mail from your old service
Use your old email service’s download or export option to get your mail as an .mbox file (or single messages as .eml files).
3. Import your mail
In Indo Mail open Settings → Import mail and choose up to 10 files of up to 200 MB each. Imported mail gets its own label, such as “Imported 2026-10-19”, and duplicates are skipped.
4. Bring your contacts
Export contacts from your old service or phone as a .vcf or .csv file, then open Indo Contacts → Import. Names, emails, phone numbers and notes come across.
5. Bring your calendar
Export your calendar as an .ics file and open Indo Calendar → Import. Events keep their times and reminders.
6. Forward new mail
In your old email service, turn on forwarding to your new @indoemail.in address, so nothing new is missed while people learn your new address.
Tell the accounts that email you.
Change your email address on the services that send you codes, bills and alerts. Start with the ones that matter most.
- Bank, UPI apps and cards — the most important, because they use email for security alerts.
- Mobile number and phone account.
- Income tax, GST, Aadhaar-linked services and other government portals.
- Work, school or college, and job portals.
- Shopping, travel and food delivery accounts.
- Insurance, investments and utilities (electricity, gas, broadband).
- Social media and messaging apps.
- Set your old address as the recovery email for nothing important any more, and use your Indo Mail address or phone instead.
Indo Mail works with mail apps too.
You can read and send Indo Mail from the mail app on your phone or computer. Create an app password in Settings → Mail apps; the same page shows the server names. See Compatibility and delivery for the details.
Switching: common questions.
Will my old address stop working?
No. Indo Mail never touches your old account. Keep it for as long as you like, with forwarding on.
Does importing use my storage?
Yes, imported mail counts towards your storage. If storage runs out during an import, the import stops and tells you how many messages came across.
Can I import again later?
Yes. Messages already imported are recognised and skipped, so importing the same file twice does not make copies.
Can someone help me?
Ask Lily at any hour, or open a support case. Enterprise customers can have their whole domain moved by our team.
