What Indo Mail offers sellers and what it does not: no checkout or marketplace, but catalogue tools, Shopping Ads that lead to your own site, UPI payment requests, and the seller duties and prohibited products that apply in India.
1. How Indo Mail fits into selling
Indo Mail is an email and productivity service. It is not an online shop and not a marketplace. We have no shopping cart, no checkout, no seller storefront on indoemail.in, and we do not take orders, hold stock, ship goods, or take a commission on sales. A customer who clicks a Shopping Ad goes to the seller's own website, and the sale happens there, between the seller and the buyer.
What we do offer is a set of tools that help a seller get discovered and get paid: catalogue tools (Merchant Center and Manufacturer Center), Shopping Ads, and Wallet payment requests for UPI. This document explains each of them and the duties that sellers carry under Indian law.
2. Merchant Center
Merchant Center is where a seller keeps a product catalogue. It feeds Shopping Ads. You can add products one by one or import a list in bulk. Each product needs the details a shopper expects to see.
- A clear title, a short description and the brand.
- The price in Indian rupees, inclusive of what the buyer will actually pay for the item, before delivery charges that you show separately on your site.
- An image link that begins with https://.
- A product page on your own website that begins with https://. The page must show the same price and the same product.
- Honest availability. Remove products that you cannot supply.
You can edit or delete products at any time. Only you, and Indo Mail staff who review ads, can see your catalogue. We do not publish it as a directory and we do not sell it.
3. Manufacturer Center
Manufacturer Center is for brand owners and manufacturers. You can add the official details of the products you make, such as the brand, model and specifications. Sellers cannot change your entries. Retailers who sell your products can then use correct information in their own catalogue. Manufacturer Center does not let you sell anything on Indo Mail. If you also want to advertise, you can run Shopping Ads from a Merchant Center catalogue.
4. Shopping Ads
A Shopping Ad shows a product photo, the product name and its price, with the label "Sponsored". Every Shopping Ad must promote a product that is in your Merchant Center. When someone clicks, they go straight to your product page on your own website.
The rules in the Advertising Platform document apply: pay per click from ₹1.00, a minimum daily budget of ₹100, contextual targeting only, review before the ad runs, and no ads on paid plans. If the price or the stock on your page does not match the ad, the ad can be rejected or removed.
5. Wallet: UPI payment requests
Wallet lets you create a request for payment as a UPI link and a QR code. You enter your UPI ID, the amount in rupees and an optional note. You can send the link by email or show the QR code at your counter. The payer opens it in their own UPI app, such as any bank or payment app, and completes the payment there.
Money moves only between the payer's bank and your bank, inside the UPI system. Indo Mail does not hold money. Indo Mail is not a bank, a wallet issuer or a payment aggregator, and we never see a UPI PIN. Wallet is a record-keeping tool. You mark a request as paid (and may note the UTR reference) once you have confirmed the money in your bank account. A request can be made for an amount between ₹1 and ₹1,00,000.
- Always check your bank statement or UPI app before you mark a request as paid.
- Beware of fake "payment received" screenshots. A screenshot is not proof of payment.
- Never share your UPI PIN, OTP or card details with anybody, including people who say they are from Indo Mail. We will never ask for them.
6. Best practice: receipt emails
If you sell through your own website, send the buyer a clear receipt by email. A good receipt reduces disputes and helps you meet your legal duties. Include:
- Your business name, address, GSTIN (if registered) and a contact email.
- The order number, date and a list of items, each with its price.
- Tax shown separately, delivery charges and the total paid.
- How the buyer paid, and the UPI reference or transaction number.
- The delivery date you promised, and your return and refund rules.
- The name and email of your grievance officer, if the law requires you to have one.
- A plain-text version of the receipt as well as a designed one, so it opens in every app.
Send receipts from an address on your own domain, and set up SPF, DKIM and DMARC, so that they reach inboxes and do not look like phishing. Business accounts on Indo Mail have these records ready to add.
7. Seller duties under Indian law
The Consumer Protection Act, 2019 and the Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020 apply to people who sell goods and services online. The rules are about the seller's own website or app as much as about marketplaces. In plain terms, if you sell online you must:
- Show on your site your legal name, address, contact details and the name and contact details of your grievance officer.
- Describe goods and services accurately, including the total price, any extra charges, the country of origin and the expiry date where it applies. Do not mislead buyers.
- Not manipulate prices to take unfair advantage of buyers, and not use unfair trade practices.
- Not post false or paid reviews as if they were genuine.
- Give the buyer an invoice with the details the law requires, and charge GST as the Central Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017 requires.
- Honour your return, refund and exchange rules, and refund buyers within a reasonable time when they are entitled to one.
- Let buyers cancel before dispatch in the way you describe, and not charge cancellation fees that are not reasonable.
- Acknowledge a complaint within 48 hours and resolve it within one month.
- Protect the personal data of buyers under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, 2025, and keep payment details secure.
- Ship only goods that you are legally allowed to sell, and hold the licences your trade needs.
This list is a summary to help you. It is not legal advice. You are responsible for knowing the rules that apply to your business.
8. Prohibited products
The following cannot be advertised through Indo Mail, listed in Merchant Center or Manufacturer Center, or requested through Wallet:
- Illegal goods and goods the law bans from sale in India.
- Counterfeit, pirated or stolen items.
- Prescription medicines sold without the licences required by law, unapproved medical devices and products with false cure claims.
- Tobacco, vaping products, alcohol, and recreational drugs.
- Weapons, ammunition and explosives.
- Betting and gambling services, lottery tickets and anything similar.
- Adult sexual material and anything involving children in a sexual way.
- Endangered animals, wildlife products, and other products that break wildlife laws.
- Personal data, hacked accounts, spyware and stalking tools.
- Hazardous materials that cannot be sold to the general public.
- Anything else the Advertising Platform document does not allow.
9. What we do if there is a problem
If a product or a seller breaks these rules, we can remove the product, pause the ad, suspend the advertiser account, and where required, tell the authorities. Buyers with a complaint about a purchase must first contact the seller. If a seller is not responding, a buyer may contact the consumer helpline or the consumer commission. If you see a seller breaking the rules in an ad you saw on Indo Mail, write to abuse@indoemail.in.
10. Our liability
Because the sale takes place on the seller's website, the seller is responsible to the buyer for the goods, delivery, refunds and service. Indo Mail does not guarantee any seller or any product and does not take part in the contract of sale.
