Lean by design. Honest about the rest.
Every email, file and video call uses electricity. We try to use as little as we can, and we will not make claims we cannot back with numbers.
What we already do.
One region
Everything runs in one data centre region in Mumbai, close to most of our users, which avoids copying data around the world.
Lean software
A small, efficient server and a database that does not need a fleet of machines, so we run on far fewer computers than our size might suggest.
No ad-tech
No third-party trackers or ad scripts in our apps — less data sent, less energy spent on every page.
Smaller files
Backups are compressed, and pictures for contacts and notes are shrunk on your device before upload.
Cleaning up
Trash empties after 30 days and unused accounts are turned off after reminders, so we do not store what nobody needs.
Lighter meetings
Video calls adapt their quality to the connection and turn video off when nobody is watching.
What we will do.
- Measure the energy use of our servers and publish the figures, with the method, in our first sustainability report.
- Prefer data centre regions and providers that run on renewable electricity where they are available in India.
- Set a reduction target once we have a measured baseline.
Until we have measured figures, we make no carbon-neutral or similar claims.
